Beth Murphy Retires

The National Marrow Donor Program® (NMDP®)/Be The Match® announces the upcoming retirement of Beth Murphy, Ed.D., R.N., Vice President of Patient Advocacy and Navigation.

Murphy started her impactful 16-year career at NMDP/Be The Match as the Director, Office of Patient Advocacy in 2003 and was promoted to Vice President of Patient Services in 2009. She has supported various teams including Health Professional Services, Education and Training, the annual Council Meeting, and ends her career as Vice President of Patient Advocacy and Navigation. Her work has focused on reducing barriers for patients who need a life-saving blood or marrow transplant and their families, and providing exceptional education and support to doctors, nurses, social workers and other health professionals caring or patients.

From the patient bedside when she worked the nursing floor to her time at NMDP/Be The Match, working with patients has been most important and rewarding part of her career. What she’ll miss most is “helping patients and building long-term relationships with them.”

In her retirement, Murphy plans on spending quality time with her family at their lake home. She is an avid boater and enjoys a variety of water activities that come with lake time.

Murphy’s last day is May 24th.  Mary Hengen will lead the Patient Advocacy and Navigation team in the interim.
