Free support groups provide patients and caregivers opportunities to connect

Life after a blood and marrow transplant (BMT) for a patient or caregiver, or life after the loss of a loved one after BMT, can be filled with questions, challenges and emotional hardship. The National Marrow Donor Program®/Be The Match® Patient Support Center offers your patients and their families free telephone support groups to help them connect with others, learn practical tips and reduce stress.

Survivorship Chats

In this one-hour phone group, BMT recipients discuss their post-transplant experiences, challenges and insights with others who are going through similar things. All post-BMT patients are welcome regardless of when they had a transplant.

Each month, groups cover a different survivorship topic. The support group is offered on three different dates and times so patients can select the option that is most convenient for them (see current group times and topics). Survivorship chats are facilitated by our BMT social workers or BMT patient navigators along with a patient volunteer. Participants can join as few or as many of these group chats as they like.

Registration is required. To register, patients should contact the Patient Support Center at 1 (888)-999-6743 or email patientinfo@nmdp.org

Caregiver Chats

In this one-hour group, BMT caregivers share tips, along with challenges and frustrations, while gaining support from other BMT caregivers. All post-BMT caregivers are welcome regardless of when their loved one had a transplant.

Offered twice a month, these chats focus on a different caregiver topic every month and are facilitated by our BMT social workers or BMT patient navigators along with a patient volunteer. Participants can join as few or as many of these group chats as they like.

Registration is required. To register, caregivers should contact the Patient Support Center at 1 (888)-999-6743 or email patientinfo@nmdp.org

Grief Support Group

This 75-minute group will allow those who have experienced the death of a loved one following BMT to connect with caring peers from across the nation. They’ll share their experiences and learn more about the grief process and available resources. All who lost a loved one following BMT are welcome.

This is an eight-session group that meets every other week and it is facilitated by our BMT social workers and patient navigators. We ask participants to commit to attending all eight sessions.

Registration is required. People who are interested in this support group should contact the Patient Support Center at 1 (888)-999-6743 or email patientinfo@nmdp.org for information about group dates and times.
