A meta-analysis of 11 studies on HCT and cognitive functioning has found that cognitive functioning does not significantly change following HCT. The 11 studies analyzed contained a total of 404 adult patients, and found no association between cognitive changes and age, time since transplant, and use of total body irradiation. In contrast, patients who received autologous transplants were more likely to demonstrate improvements in attention (p=0.004).
