This survey of HCT practices in Europe in 2011 collected data on 13,470 allogeneic transplants and 18,605 autologous transplants at 651 transplant centers. The survey revealed that: more allogeneic transplants used unrelated donors than used HLA identical sibling donors (54% vs. 39%); peripheral blood was used in 99% of autologous transplants and in 73% of allogeneic transplants; and cord blood transplants represented 6% of the total number of allogeneic transplants. The survey also revealed that in the last 10 years, the number of allogeneic transplants has doubled, while autologous transplantation has increased by 32%.
