This report contains the recommendations of a working group of the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) convened to address emerging cellular therapies to treat HIV infection. The working group recommends multidisciplinary research into HIV treatments incorporating allogeneic or autologous transplantation using naturally occurring or engineered cells with anti-HIV moieties. They also note that protection of central memory T cells from HIV infection would likely be a critical component of a functional cure for HIV infection.
